Baby, don't hurt me...
I pull my information from a variety of sources, scientific, philosophic, esoteric, mathematic, all the branches of reality. One of the most interesting fruits of the scientific branch is the idea of Evolutionary Psychology.
The idea is simple, as the divine force of evolution shapes our bodies, it also shapes are minds. A thought form that encourages survival is encouraged within a population, from the supporting brain structure up.
Let me walk you through how it works on the large scale.
Let's take a group of early mammals, let's say that they are bipedal, hairless, omnivorous, and give them a rudimentary intelligence. Let's also make them reproduce sexually, with a pair of sexes, one base on carrying a fetus, and the other based on inseminating the carriers. For ease, let's call them dams and sires.
Because of the complexity of a large brain, necessary for intelligence, dams carry for most of a year, gestating a small liter, usually only one maybe two. During a large portion of that time, they are almost totally immobile because of the size of the growing pup, unable to feed or defend themselves. Easily picked off by predators.
Now sires have a vested interest, on a genetic level, to have as many offspring as they can. And the more dams that they impregnate that survive, increases the number of pups born. So a tendency to gather, and protect those you have done so to is encouraged within the population. Around the same time, they are also encouraged to provide for their harems, as the more dams that starve, the fewer pups survive.
Dams have a far more obvious investment in the offspring, but the evolutionary forces on them are no less demanding. Indisposed as they are for most of a year in the process of reproduction, they are encouraged to choose mates most capable of providing for themselves and their offspring. Their genes will encourage mates that take fewer other mates, as they will be able to get a higher percentage of the sire's production. They will also be encouraged by evolution to be less altruistic, as sharing with rivals, and even their mate, gives them and their offspring less to work with.
So, even if, all other things being equal within the total population, the only difference between dams and sires being this one single trait, dams are going to be encouraged towards selfish, self-centered behaviors.
Now, this is only one fruit of my tree of knowledge, but it is a bitter one. Made more so by a nearby fruit from a different branch.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
I really hate fruit salad, don't you?
